Meet Michael Knox

Born and raised in Davidson, Michael Knox began his legal career in Cabarrus County upon his graduation from law school. From 1989 to 2000 he was in private practice until taking the bench as a District Court Judge. From 2000 to 2010, Mr. Knox presided over thousands of criminal, civil and juvenile cases, balancing the facts of the case with the law to reach a fair and impartial decision. Since his return to private practice in 2011, he has advocated on behalf of hundreds of Cabarrus County residents, representing their interests before the District and Superior Courts.


Mr. Knox earned degrees in Business and Economics from NC State University and a J.D. from Wake Forest University Law School. In addition to traditional litigation, Mr. Knox is a state certified Superior Court Mediator and a Family Financial Mediator. 


His family consists of his wife, Ashley (McEachern), a Concord native and an employee of the Cabarrus County Clerks office for over a decade. His son Raleigh - a UNCC senior and a firefighter for the Odell Fire Rescue community - and daughter, Emily - a chemistry major at ECU. In addition, they have a dog, Lola, and a cat, Hallie.

Knox Family History of Service

The Knox Family believes in public service.  Mike's father, Russell Knox, was Mayor of Davidson for 14 years. His brother, Rusty, is the current Mayor of Davidson. His uncle, Eddie Knox, is a former state senator and former Mayor of Charlotte. His uncle, Joe Knox, was Mayor of Mooresville for 26 years, and his cousin Gary Knox, is a former Mayor of Cornelius. 

Community Involvement

Michael has served as an Odell firefighter and currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Odell Fire Rescue Department. He also has served on the Board of Directors for The Old Courthouse Theatre as well as performing in several shows.  In his free time, Michael enjoys singing in the southern gospel quartet “Witness”, traveling around our beautiful state on his motorcycle, attending bluegrass festivals, and spending time with family.
